Munchii works because people post food they actually cooked. These guidelines keep it that way. They apply to recipes, photos, comments, direct messages, usernames, bios and anything else you put in the app.
Contents
1. The short version
Post real food. Credit your sources. Be decent to other cooks. Don't sell things, don't stir up hate, and don't put anyone at risk.
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Breaking these rules can get your content removed and your account banned.
2. What belongs here
- Food you made. Your dinner, your bakes, your experiments — however imperfect they look.
- Recipes people can follow. Real quantities, real steps. "A bit of this" is fine if that's genuinely how you cook.
- Honest notes. What went wrong, what you'd change, what you substituted. That's the useful part.
- Adaptations, clearly labelled. “Adapted from my grandmother's ragù” or “based on a recipe from a cookbook I own” is welcome.
- Kind, specific comments. Questions, tips and encouragement.
- Drinks and cooking with alcohol. Cocktails, and wine or beer in a recipe, are welcome. Don't promote heavy drinking, and don't advertise drink brands.
3. What doesn't
- Posts that aren't about food. Munchii is a cooking app; unrelated photos and text will be removed.
- Hate, harassment and threats. No attacks based on race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age. No pile-ons, no targeted abuse, no doxxing.
- Sexual, violent or shocking material. Including gratuitous gore. Ordinary butchery and preparing whole fish or meat is fine and expected.
- Spam and self-promotion. No bulk posting, engagement farming, affiliate links, or accounts that exist to advertise a product or restaurant.
- Impersonation. Don't pose as another person, chef or brand.
- Stolen recipes and photos. See section 4.
- Dangerous advice. See section 5.
- Illegal material of any kind. Sexualised content involving minors leads to an immediate permanent ban and a report to the authorities.
- Unwanted messages. No harassment, sexual messages or spam in direct messages. Block anyone you don't want to hear from.
4. Credit and copyright
A list of ingredients generally isn't protected by copyright, but the way a recipe is written — the method text, headnotes and photographs — usually is. So:
- Write the method in your own words. Don't paste text from a book, blog or another app.
- Don't upload someone else's photograph as if it were your dish.
- Name your source when a recipe comes from one. It's good manners and it helps other cooks.
- You must have the necessary rights to material you import. Owning a cookbook or receiving a screenshot does not by itself give you permission to publish its text or photographs.
- Keep imported recipes private for personal use until you choose to publish. Before publishing, write the method in your own words, name the original source and use your own dish photo. Screenshots of third-party posts must not be used as published cover photos.
- You may save and cook recipes shared by Munchii users under our Terms of Use.
Copyright complaints, counter-notices and strikes
Rights holders can send a complaint to support@munchii.app. Include the username and relevant recipe, identify the work you own, give your name and email, and state in good faith that the use is unauthorised. Complaints go through our reporting process. We confirm receipt and act on clear infringement within 24 hours.
Credible infringement may result in the material being hidden. We explain copyright removals to the user. If you believe the material is yours or that you have permission, reply with your explanation and supporting evidence within seven days. A convincing counter-notice results in restoration and removal of the relevant strike. A confirmed violation produces a strike.
- First confirmed infringement: we remove the material and warn the user.
- Second confirmed infringement within 12 months: we remove the material and issue a final warning.
- Third confirmed infringement within 12 months: we ban the account.
Confirmed copying of many recipes or photos from one source may result in an account ban after one case. Strikes older than 12 months expire, and successful counter-notices remove the relevant strike. The seven-day copyright counter-notice step is separate from the six-month general moderation appeal period.
5. Food safety
Don't post methods that put people at real risk. That includes unsafe home preserving or canning instructions, raw or undercooked food presented without any caution, foraging advice that could lead someone to eat something toxic, and "recipes" involving non-food items. If a recipe carries an obvious allergen, say so.
Munchii is not a source of medical or nutritional advice. Automated moderation does not verify a recipe's food safety or nutritional accuracy.
If content suggests someone's life or safety is in danger, we may inform the police. If you see an emergency, contact your local emergency services first.
6. How we enforce this
We use reports and automated tools, including OpenAI, to identify potential violations in public recipes, photos, comments, usernames and bios. A person reviews reports, appeals and every ban.
Depending on how serious and how repeated a breach is, we may:
| Action | When |
|---|---|
| Remove the post | Most first-time, lower-severity breaches |
| Limit reach or hide from discovery | Borderline or repeatedly reported posts |
| Warn the account | A pattern of minor breaches |
| Temporarily suspend | Repeat breaches after a warning |
| Permanently ban | Severe breaches — hate, threats, illegal material, or evading a suspension |
Serious safety issues get acted on immediately, without a warning first.
We notify you of moderation actions, including reduced visibility, with the rule involved, the action taken, any automated involvement and the appeal route. For urgent safety cases, notification may follow the action.
7. Reporting and appeals
Tap the ••• menu on a recipe, comment or profile and choose Report. You can also email support@munchii.app without an account. Reports are confidential — the person you report isn't told who reported them. We review reports within 24 hours, seven days per week, and send you a short outcome message.
If we act on your post and you think we got it wrong, reply to the notification or email support@munchii.app within six months. A different person than the one who made the decision reviews the appeal.
You can block someone through their profile or its menu. Blocked users cannot see your posts.
8. Munchii Cooks
Munchii Cook accounts are run by the Munchii team to share everyday recipes while the app grows. They carry a Munchii Cook badge and follow the same rules as everyone else.
